Books Sparking Joy - Joyful: The Surprising Power of Ordinary Things to Create Extraordinary Happiness by Ingrid Fetell Lee

It was absolutely joyful to read this book. Lee set out on a quest to discover what inspires the feeling of joy and why. She identified ten different aspects that seem to bring joy universally. They are Energy, Abundance, Freedom, Harmony, Play, Surprise, Transcendence, Magic, Celebration, and Renewal. She takes us on her journeys to discover why and how these things work. She meets with designers, artists, gardeners, and even a magician in her own travels. She tells anecdotes from people who specialize in each area. And she also cites multiple studies that are all noted in the back.

Lee was diligent and careful with her writing as well. She chose joyful words that elicited the wonderful feelings she talks about; it's playful, colorful, abundant, and more. I was constantly looking up the people she mentions, having delightful surprises with all the photos of beautiful artwork and events.

The mentions Marie Kondo several times in the search for joy. Joyful is very helpful to me in identifying things that Spark Joy and can help us create and curate our environments in a more satisfying way. The book includes both pages and links for a Joyful Toolkit to assist you in your journey. You can also find Ingrid Fetell Lee at aestheticsofjoy.com
